Olympus 35 RC – My favorite compact camera

Olympus 35 RC rangefinder camera Mamiya

Olympus 35RC Rangefinder Camera – Shot on Mamiya RZ ProII 67 with 65mm lens (Fuji Provia 400)

Olympus 35 RC is a great little camera I bought for few dollars on a flea market few years back

it’s one of the smallest 35 mm rangefinder with all manual settings plus automatic aperture settings. Cameraquest.com writes:

“The RC is packed with so many features,  it  reads like a photographer’s wish list, easily winning the “Most features in the Smallest Size” for this camera class”

and it truly is packed with feature: small, great lens, leaf shutter lens sync at all speed, shutterspeed and aperture visible in viewfinder, AE exposure lock, bright viewfinder, great with flash, off switch, battery test, pc connection, quiet shutter, self timer.

and, you get 40 frames on 36 exposure roll!!!

one downside: It use outdated Mercury 625 batteries but can easily be modified for modern 1.5V

now I’m just starting to wish Olympus will redesign this little beauty with digital sensor. the new pen is to plastic and has no optical viewfinder like Leica M9 and Fuji X-100

Burn Magazine – Some great photo essays

long time since I found such a great website covering photo journalism  and text (essays)

I specially liked “Destino” by Michelle Frankfurter covering Central American migrants traveling through Mexico on their way to USA

And “Life and Death in the Northern Pass” by Dominic Bracco II covering the fights on the Mexico border

And also “Northern Caucasus” by Davide Monteleone, Emerging Photographer Grant 2010 Recipient

If you have the heart to read and see the essay from Walter Astrada about  ”rape, weapon of was in Eastern Congo” you should, other wise not! I really felt sick after seeing and reading it!

ohhh, and for those of you who love RAX and his new book “Last days of the arctic”, should check out “Disappearing Ice Age” by Andrea Gjestvang

happy reading
