The new Profoto BatPac

The new Profoto BatPac

Profoto promised more than year ago to bring a portable power source for their D1 series flashes. There was not press release but a small sentence in the D1 brochure saying the battery pack would be available

Looks nice, a bit like a picnic bag but containing a swappable 12v sealed lead acid battery and pure sine wave inverter.

Number of flashes:
300 full power flashes at 1000Ws
600 full power flashes at 500Ws
1200 full power flashes at 250Ws

and of course it can power laptops, battery chargers, wind machines and more. And it’s not only for D1, it’s also for the older ComPact units and Acute2 generator system

It takes 8 hours to recharge and battery life is 300 charge cycle with 50% battery capacity left. Question if the new Lion batteries will make their way into the BatPac?

Estimated price in Japan is 1950$

One Response to Profoto BatPac

  1. David Art says:

After testing it is our assumption that when the Acute 2R fires, the flash heads power draw is so great that the BatPac can not supply enough electrical charge which effectively turns off the Acute and the built in Pocket Wizard receiver. With the receiver memory now cleared, during re-charge the Acute pack has to re-learn the Pocket Wizard transmitters code again. FLASH, nothing, learning, nothing, learning, nothing, learned, FLASH, unlearn, nothing… You get the point. Perhaps this is a defective BatPac and Profoto USA is looking into that possibility but if not Houston we have a problem that will have to be addressed…
